The jeep of lawmaker Haji Salim hit Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan’s motorbike being at the center of chaos allegedly has no valid papers.

Bearing registration number Dhaka Metro Gha 11-5736, the vehicle had been playing for almost a decade illegally.

If a vehicle runs without fitness certificate, the owner is liable to be punished with six months’ jail  and fine upto Tk 25,000 or both. The law proves for Tk 10,000 fine for a vehicle which is devoid of tax token.

Validity of tax token and fitness certificates of the SUV jeep expired in September 2010, sources said.

Haji Salim, his son Erfan Salim and staffs allegedly used the vehicle stipulating lawmaker’s sticker on its glass to avoid any check and action by the police.
